UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia to Host Virtual Country Conference

The UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia, in collaboration with the GEF Small Grants Programme UNDP, will host its 4th Country Conference from the 15th to 17th February 2021. The theme of this year’s Conference is “Visioning Sustainable Futures – Confronting the Threats of Climate Change and Climate Variability”, and it is expected to provide an avenue to share existing research and disseminate information on Saint Lucia. The conference will take place using a virtual Zoom platform, anchored at the Conference Room, Floor 5, Finance Centre, Pointe Seraphine, Castries, Saint Lucia.
Mining billionaire buys stake in leading Australian feed company Private investment group, Tattarang, owned by Australian mining and agribusiness billionaire, Andrew Forrest, has spent AUS$12mn (US$9.3m) on a stake in leading domestic feed manufacturer, Ridley Corporation.
The investors, whose interests run across meat processing, horticulture, aquaculture, energy, telecommunications, biopharmaceuticals, and property, among other fields, took a 5.1% stake in the animal nutrition group, reports Australia media title,
Ridley produces complete feeds mineral concentrates, nutritional blocks and supplements targeted at dairy cows, the poultry and pig sectors, as well as the beef, sheep, horse and pet segments. It is also working on commercialization of its Novacq prawn feed ingredient, with related production facilities in Thailand.

Redclaw crayfish farmers welcome new industry players as demand continues to outstrip supply

Redclaw crayfish are ideal for aquaculture because they can live in large groups and can withstand relatively poor water quality.

Redclaw crayfish farming remains a cottage industry in Queensland with an estimated 30 growers, but numbers are steadily increasing as demand for the tasty yabby continues to outstrip supply, according to the Queensland Crayfish Farmers Association (QCFA).
