In the small town of Minot, North Dakota, an impetuous and innovative paramedic has revitalized her rural area’s idea of continuing education with a fun and satisfying idea.
Mumtaaz Allen, a paramedic serving the Minot Air Force Base, created the “Potluck Lectures,” which brought busy EMS colleagues working at rural volunteer ambulance services, city systems, air ambulance services and Minot’s Trinity Health together for CE presentations centered around a potluck dinner. Meals were provided by Allen and by anyone who wanted to share their favorite dish. The gatherings allowed EMS providers and local physicians to dialog and hear concerns and challenges while satisfying CE requirements.

Last month, in correlation with a Bomber Task Force (BTF) deployment, two B-52H bombers from the 5th Bomb Wing, Minot Air Force Base (AFB), North Dakota, arrived at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, May 4. Those bombers joined four B-52s that had been previously sent to Al Udeid in late April. The bombers are there to protect the orderly and responsible withdrawal of U.S. and coalition forces from Afghanistan.

LITCHFIELD – Dr. George Thomas Carofino, 77, of Litchfield, peacefully slipped away on May 11, 2021, in the embrace of his wife and surrounded by his loving family. George was born in Meriden on May 31, 1943, the son of the late George Raymond Carofino and the late Anita (Rinaldini) Carofino.
George graduated from St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, Mass., in 1962, and attended Villanova University for two years. He was accepted into the School of Dentistry, University of Maryland after completing his sophomore year, despite the fact that the usual admission requirements were a college degree. Upon graduation, he was awarded the Timothy O. Heatwole Award, presented to the student who demonstrated the most humanitarian concern for his patients. That sense of genuine interest in, and concern for, all that he met was a hallmark of his life.
