NEW DELHI: Meenakshi Lekhi, the second-term MP of Bharatiya Janata Party’s from Delhi, assumed office as Union Minister of State (MoS) for the Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday.
The Ministry of External Affairs now has three MOS – V Muraleedharan, Meenakshi Lekhi and Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh.
Lekhi said, “On behalf of all friends, I express my gratitude to the Prime Minister, Home Minister, party chief and the entire team that they prioritised meritocracy and hard work and gave positions to everyone. India has been brought not only on the maps but also in the ministries.”

The Cabinet expansion on Wednesday saw the broadening of MEA with Meenakshi Lekhi and Rajkumar Ranjan Singh being inducted while V Muraleedharan was already MoS MEA.

Rajkumar Ranjan Singh and Meenakshi Lekhi have been appointed as the new Ministers of State for MEA.

NEW DELHI: Struggling to salvage his image after a disastrous and widely criticised handling of the second wave of Covid-19 that hit India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expanded his cabinet and fired seven senior ministers, including Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.
Minister of Law and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad, known for sharp exchanges with Twitter bosses recently, was also sacked and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar, who stood in as the official spokesman, was dropped.

During the cabinet expansion ceremony on Wednesday, women in Prime Minister Narendra Modi s council of ministers including Nirmala Sitharaman, Smriti Irani, Darshana Jardosh, Pratima Bhoumik, Shobha Karandlaje, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, Meenakshi Lekhi, Anupriya Patel, and Annapurna Devi - donned different types of beautiful handloom sarees.
