AUBURN â Teens ages 16 and 17 can receive only the Pfizer vaccine against COVID-19, DeKalb County Health Officer Dr. Mark Souder reminded Tuesday.
The Pfizer vaccine is available at the Mirro Center on the Parkview Health campus in Fort Wayne, and from Kroger, Meijer and Walgreens pharmacies, he said. The pharmacies schedule vaccination appointments on their individual websites.
Kroger and Meijer take walk-ins on limited basis, he added.
He added that CVS pharmacy was expected to have the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine available as of Tuesday. The other vaccines require two shots, separated by 3-4 weeks.
The DeKalb County Health Departmentâs vaccination site at Middaugh Hall in Auburn offers only the Moderna vaccine.
AUBURN â The DeKalb County Health Department on Friday reported 12 new cases of COVID-19 in DeKalb County residents, as the county health officer worried about a decline in vaccinations.
In total, 183 cases have been confirmed in the first 23 days of April â an average of just under nine per day. However, in the past seven days, the county has reported 78 cases for an average of 11.1 per day.
New cases numbered in double digits for the fifth-straight weekday, reversing a recent trend of six weeks with daily cases in single digits.
At the same time, County Health Officer Dr. Mark Souder reported a reduced demand for vaccinations at the countyâs clinic in Middaugh Hall on the DeKalb County Fairgrounds in Auburn.
AUBURN â Nucor Building Systems of Waterloo on Monday provided lunches to volunteers helping with COVID-19 vaccinations at Middaugh Hall.
NBS IN delivered about 30 lunches to a team of volunteers made up of community members, health department employees and representatives of the National Guard, who have been assisting with COVID-19 vaccinations since January.
âWe provided these lunches to say thanks for all that the volunteers are doing to take care of the community,â said A. J. Byerley, NBS IN sales service manager. âThis is an opportunity to give back to the community that we work and live in.â
