Nicola Hanratty appeared in the dock at Aberdeen Sheriff Court after previously pleading guilty to a charge of theft by shoplifting. The 45-year-old admitted targeting Iceland Foods on Holburn Street on October 7 and stealing a quantity of food. Fiscal depute Janet MacDonald told the court the items were valued at £41.10. Defence agent Peter Shepherd said things had improved for his client since the incident. Sheriff Margaret Hodge deferred sentence on Hanratty, whose address was given in court papers as Hetherwick Road, Aberdeen, until July to allow her to prove she can behave.

Kenneth Lowe was on the first day of a holiday off work and had started drinking before making the decision to drive to the shop. And when police tried to breathalyse the 65-year-old he failed to provide a sample both at the roadside and at the police station. Lowe, whose address was given in court papers as Great Northern Road in Aberdeen, pled guilty to two charges over the matter, which happened on December 7.

A man has admitted culpably and recklessly setting fire to a blind at an Aberdeen flat. Bruce Ross was not personally present when the case called against him at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, but entered a plea of guilty through his solicitor John McLeod. Ross, aged 59, admitted culpably and recklessly setting fire to vertical blinds at an address on Powis Place in Aberdeen on August 31 last year. The charge against Ross states the fire took effect and destroyed the blinds and left other fixtures and fittings in the property damaged.

An Aberdeen man made racist comments to two shop workers after becoming involved in a row over outdoor seating arrangements at a nearby pub. Paul Robson entered Silvan Communications on Union Street on November 17 and began swearing and making offensive comments towards staff. The 47-year-old appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and pled guilty to a single charge of acting in a racially aggravated manner. Depute fiscal Lynne McVicar told the court the shop workers were originally from Turkey but had lived in the UK for more than a decade.
