Beijing 2022 One Year to Go – Information for the media IOC Thursday, 4 February 2021 will mark One Year to Go to the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has planned a series of activities to mark this occasion, under the message of the Olympic brand campaign #StrongerTogether, acknowledging the power of sport and in particular the Olympic Games to bring people together. Activities will be digitally-led, centred around the resilience and strength of the athletes as they prepare for the Games. This will be supplemented by an event in Beijing to mark one year until the Games begin. The wider Olympic Movement will also use their digital and social media over the coming days to show their support for all the athletes preparing for Beijing 2022.

Twenty-five new IOC Young Leaders join the programme IOC Twenty-five Young Leaders have been selected by the IOC as part of a four-year programme supported by Worldwide Olympic Partner Panasonic. Coming from 25 countries and five continents, these future leaders will build sustainable, sport-focused social businesses from ideation to fruition, supported by weekly learning modules and leadership opportunities. Today, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the selection of 25 new IOC Young Leaders who will leverage the power of sport to make a positive difference in their communities. This fifth generation of IOC Young Leaders will benefit from an enhanced version of the programme, which moves from an annual to a four-year model, and will provide the Young Leaders with additional tools and expertise that they will need to become successful social entrepreneurs and make a positive impact through sport.

Nearly $57M for 12 affordable housing projects in Montréal

Government of Canada (CNW Group/Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation) QUEBEC CITY, Jan. 21, 2021 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada, in collaboration with the Government of Quebec, is pleased to announce an agreement under the Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI) between Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and the City of Montréal. As part of this agreement, $56.8 million in federal funding is being provided to the City of Montréal to support the rapid completion of 12 projects on its territory, representing 263 housing units. In addition to supporting the agreement between CMHC and the City of Montréal, the Government of Quebec is committed to funding the rent supplement for certain projects included in this announcement for 20 years. With this assistance, eligible renters will spend only 25% of their income on housing.

Death of Walther Tröger, IOC Honorary Member Getty Images It is with great sadness that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has learnt of the death of Walther Tröger, IOC Honorary Member, at the age of 91. In addition to his invaluable contribution to the Olympic Movement internationally, Mr Tröger’s remarkable career as a sports administrator was marked by his successful commitment to shaping sport in Germany for several decades. Holding a degree in law from the University of Erlangen, he started in 1953 as Secretary General of the German Student Sports Association, before joining the German Sports Confederation (1961-1970) and the National Olympic Committee (NOC), where he served as Secretary General between 1970 and 1992, and as President for 10 years until 2002.
