Protecting the Planet While Great Powers Compete

Protecting the Planet While Great Powers Compete It wouldn’t take long for the world to see that families and businesses, operating in a free market, will yield far better environmental and economic results than any government policy ever could. And that would be U.S. global leadership. This blue dot in space is the only planet we have. We must take care of it. Like any other great challenge, this demands a seriousness of effort paired with the honesty and courage to insist on practical, realistic, efficacious policies. The planet doesn’t know we have national borders. We do. It’s a reality that can’t be ignored and won’t change. The idea of erasing the freedoms of peoples and the sovereignty of nations to address environmental issues is unrealistic and unnecessary. Nations will cooperate and compete, just like in any other matter of international affairs.

Scaling Climate-Smart Mapping and Adaptation Planning in Vietnam

Scaling Climate-Smart Mapping and Adaptation Planning in Vietnam 21 December, 2020 - 10:00 An effective approach for risk mapping and adaptation planning is being implemented in various important agricultural regions in Vietnam, in order to help farmers mitigate climate-related risks. With the successful implementation of the Climate-Smart Mapping and Adaptation Planning (CS-MAP) in the provinces of Mekong River Delta (MRD), the Department of Crop Production (DCP) of Vietnam started to apply the same methodology to the provinces of South Central Coast and Northern Midlands and Delta in 2020. For the Northern Midlands and Delta, CS-MAP was used to address irrigation water shortage and to manage reservoirs in the region. On the other hand, CS-MAP is being applied to seven provinces in South Central Coast to help farmers cope with drought and salinity intrusion problems.
