PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio - When Stephanie Zavala of Downey, California, decided to become a member of the Professional Women’s Bowling Association, she listed winning the PWBA Rookie of the Year award as her top goal.
It didn’t take long for Zavala to become a front-runner for the award in the 2021 season after capturing her first career PWBA Tour title Saturday at the PWBA Greater Cleveland Open.
Zavala defeated Bryanna Coté of Tucson, Arizona, in the championship match at Yorktown Lanes, 247-216, to claim the title in just her third tournament as a tour member.
The victory, broadcast live on BowlTV.com, earned Zavala the $10,000 top prize.

The PBA is officially heading back to Portland, Maine, for not one, but two special PBA King of the Lanes events.

After a year and a half away from beloved Bayside Bowl in Portland, Maine, the Professional Bowlers Association is officially heading back to the famed center for not one, but two special PBA King of the Lanes events, the first 2021 Guaranteed Rate PBA Tour events with fans in attendance.
“The PBA is thrilled to be returning to Bayside Bowl and to welcome back our loyal fans for the first time since March 2020,” said Colie Edison, CEO of the PBA. “We are grateful for Bayside Bowl’s long-time support and anyone who has been there or watched a telecast filmed there knows the BoPo crowd embodies the spirit and energy of the PBA fan base. EAGAN, Minn. - After what most would consider a successful run at the 2021 Professional Women s Bowling Association Kickoff Classic Series in January, Ukraine s Dasha Kovalova was not satisfied.
After losing in the semifinal match to eventual champion Julia Bond of Aurora, Illinois, in what she considered embarrassing fashion at the PWBA Hall of Fame Classic, Kovalova was determined to erase the memory of the disappointing performance and put herself back in the winner s circle as quickly as possible.
One event later, she captured her third career PWBA title with a resounding 268-173 victory over Missy Parkin of Laguna Hills, California, in the championship match at the PWBA Twin Cities Open at Cedarvale Lanes in Eagan, Minnesota.
