5 arrested after attempted murder of Derry police officer
Five men have been arrested in Derry in connection with the attempted murder of a female part-time police officer.
A viable explosive device was found beside the young mother’s car in Ballyquin Road, Dungiven last month.
The five men are being held under the Terrorism Act at Musgrave Police Station.
One of the men arrested today – a 52 year old – is also being questioned as part of an operation targeting the New IRA’s bomb making activities.
Meanwhile the Army Bomb Disposal Unit has made safe a viable explosive device that was found in Tuam, County Galway this morning.

Investigation after âviable deviceâ left under family car
Evacuated residents return home after bomb disposal experts ensure scene safe
GARDAÃ are investigating an incident in which a viable device was left under a familyâs car outside their home in a Tuam estate.
Residents of the Cuirt na Cora estate on the Weir Road were evacuated from their homes early on Wednesday morning, after the alarm was raised by Martina Ward, who had heard a bang outside her house in the middle of the night.

The Army EOD team from Athlone attended the scene of an unexplained device in Tuam earlier today, and have now made the device safe.
They have left the scene and removed what has been deemed to be a viable explosive device from the location.
An Garda Síochána is appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Millstream Park or Weir Road in Tuam from approximately 10pm last night and 8.30am this morning, and who may have information to make contact with them at Tuam Garda Station on (093) 70840.
Snowfest Kicks Off Saturday in St. Joseph
The inaugural
Snowfest, sponsored by the St. Joseph Park Board and Recreation Department, kicks off Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. with a moonlight snowshoe walk in Millstream Park. The walk will be followed by a bonfire and s’mores near the Millstream Park shelter.
Snowfest continues on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Park. Activities include skating and sledding races.
