Train with flammable liquids derails in Millard County

BLACK ROCK, Millard County A train with multiple cars containing flammable liquids derailed along state Route 257 on Saturday. In a statement on Sunday, Union Pacific said the train carried mixed freight in 28 cars and derailed about 4:30 p.m. There are no injuries, and Union Pacific is currently working to remove debris and repair the area of the derailment, it said. Union Pacific said an engineer and a conductor were on the train. Millard County Sheriff s Office Lt. Robert Clark said six cars were carrying flammable liquids. The other cars contained bulk flour, wheat and other commodities. The liquids were contained to the railroad right-of-way. The derailment did not affect any roadways.

According to Lt. Rob Clark with the Millard County Sheriff s Office, an off-duty deputy was alerted of a rollover crash around 2:20 p.m. The person who alerted him was a victim of the crash, who was found on the side of the road and was taken to the deputy s residence, which was four miles away from the scene of the accident. The location was roughly 33 miles north of U.S. Highway 6/50 on Gandy Road, a dirt and gravel roadway.
