Colleagues remembered Cote as a jovial man who was deeply prepared and passionate about town issues. FILE PHOTO Ryan Mavity Milton Councilman Michael Coté passed away April 3, reportedly after suffering a stroke.  Coté, 72, was in his third term as a councilman, having first been elected in 2013. He purchased a home in Milton in 2008, moving to town full time in 2011. He began attending Milton Town Council meetings and grew concerned about accounting-related issues. Coté was a laid-back man with a scholarly salt-and-pepper beard and glasses, but very easy with a smile. Despite his easygoing personality, Coté took his work seriously. He retired to Milton after a career as a certified public accountant, corporate auditor and budget manager for large companies in New York. Event returns after being canceled due to COVID in 2020 Milton’s Horseshoe Crab and Shorebird Festival will be held Saturday, May 29, at Milton Memorial Park. Put on by Milton Chamber of Commerce, the festival will be exclusively at the park this year in an effort to allow for better social distancing and to monitor attendance. The festival will not include shuttle buses to Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge due to COVID restrictions. April 7, 2021 Michael Alfred Coté passed suddenly Friday, April 2, 2021. Mike was born June 4, 1948, to the late Alfred R. and Eveline Michaud Coté in Willimantic, Conn., where he resided until after college. He attended St. Mary School and Windham High School. He received his bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Connecticut, and shortly thereafter his CPA. He worked as an accountant for Peat Warwick Mitchell, Empire National Bank, Timex and Bangor Punta.  Mike married Dr. Barbara L. Tenney Oct. 22, 1983, in the presence of family and friends. In 1987 they purchased a Koenig Art Emporium store in Springfield, Mass., and welcomed their daughter, Lisa Michelle, to the world. Mike was a stay-at-home dad for 15 years, actively participating in Lisa’s schooling and instilling his love of family, empathy for others, and sense of humor in her. Milton Town Council announced its annual Citizen of the Year and Lifetime Volunteer of the Year awards April 5. Taking home the Citizen of the Year award was Threasa Brittingham, who was recognized for her compassion, pride in the community and acts of kindness on behalf of Milton citizens, Town Manager Kristy Rogers said.  Brittingham, a Milton native and graduate of Cape Henlopen High School, organized Grad Fairies during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the Simply Milton Facebook page, Brittingham asked parents to sign up children who were losing out on graduation because of the pandemic.
