writes Will Jennings. Cirencester’s Klein never pictured competing at the Games as his favoured slopestyle and half-pipe disciplines were not included in the Winter Olympic programme. But that all changed in Sochi seven years ago as American pair Joss Christensen and David Wise scooped the sports’ maiden gold medals on the Russian snow. Milan Cortina 2026 to appoint online influencer as digital ambassador Wednesday, 3 February 2021
An online influencer with at least 50,000 followers will be appointed as the digital ambassador of the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Milan and Cortina D Ampezzo.
Organisers revealed they want to make digital communication a strength in the build-up to the Italian Games in five years time.
An application process has now closed and 16 contenders are due to be selected for a final shortlist.
They will then be set four Olympic themed challenges to determine the winner, who will be awarded the ambassador role.
Voting to decide the winners of the challenges will take place on Instagram.

Three members of the Five Star Movement have called for Giovanni Malagò to step aside from his roles as Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) and Milan-Cortina 2026 President, despite the country avoiding a ban from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Italian Government last week approved a decree to guarantee the autonomy of the CONI.
The move saw CONI avoid sanctions from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
It was feared that Italy would face a flag and national anthem ban for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics due to a controversial sports law, which was considered to have threatened the autonomy of CONI.
