Reported number of COVID-19 cases increase on Sanibel

UPDATE: As of today’s update, Sanibel’s total number of recorded cases has increased to 125.
Lee County has recorded 36,145 total cases of COVID-19 35,309 residents and 836 non-residents including 124 between Sanibel and Captiva, according to the Florida Department of Health.
As of the Dec. 18 update, the DOH reported that it has recorded a total of 1,181,483 cases in Florida. The figure consists of 1,161,953 residents who tested positive, along with 19,530 non-residents.
There have been 20,401 deaths among Florida residents 1.8 percent of the total cases.
There have been 630 deaths among residents in Lee 1.8 percent of the total cases.
The Florida Department of Health reported 406 new COVID-19 cases and no additional deaths in Lee County Thursday.
The cases were the most on a single day for the county since 872 were recorded on July 16.
The newly added cases pushed Lee s total to 35,759, eighth-most among Florida counties. Through Wednesday, Lee s moving seven-day new case average was 324, more than double the same average on Nov. 1 (132).
The seven-day average case rate is the average of a day and the previous six days of COVID-19 cases. This is recognized as a more accurate measure of the spread of coronavirus in a community. That s because it minimizes the impact of a single day with a very high or very low number of cases.
The Florida Department of Health on Saturday reported 348 new cases of COVID-19 in Lee County and three additional deaths.
Lee s total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 stands at 613. The new cases increased the county s cumulative number to 34,177.
On Friday, the state reported a total of 33,829 cases and 610 deaths in Lee County.
