DHAKA: Najmul Hossain Shanto has been omitted from Bangladesh’s ODI squad for the first two matches of their three-match series against Sri Lanka. Shanto is one of five exclusions from the large white-ball squad that toured New Zealand in March. Shakib Al Hasan has returned to the side and is the only addition in the 15-member squad. Shakib had missed the New Zealand tour because of a thigh injury and opted out of the subsequent two-match Test series in Sri Lanka to play in the Indian premier League (IPL). He and Mustafizur Rahman were in hotel quarantine since returning to Dhaka after the IPL’s suspension and started training on May 18 after completing 11 days in isolation. The squad also excludes Al Amin Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, Rubel Hossain and Nasum Ahmed, who toured New Zealand for the white-ball leg. Shakib, Imrul back for Sri Lanka ODI series The New Nation

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 23-man preliminary squad ahead of Sri Lanka s ODI tour of Bangladesh 2021. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Left-handed opener Imrul Kayes have been recalled for the three-match ODI series.
BCB announced the squad on Saturday afternoon. We want to have a look at Imrul considering he is scoring runs at domestic level and see where he stands, BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin said.
Imrul last played in OID against the West Indies at home in 2018. The Kolkata Test was Imrul s last match for the country in the 2019 tour of India. The left-arm opener returned to the national team after almost two years.

Bangladesh decided to keep an unchanged 15-member squad for the second Test against Sri Lanka, scheduled to start on Thursday in Kandy, said an official on Tuesday.
The Tigers had the option to change their squad considering they have extra six cricketers in Sri Lanka after they left for the island nation with a 21-member preliminary squad.
However, the team management decided to go against any such idea as they preferred to keep their faith in the members they picked for the opening Test.

Bangladesh are eyeing to play five-bowlers in the longer format that gives them the best chance to pick 20 wickets.
The introduction of five bowlers against Sri Lanka was a breath of fresh air for the tourists considering they are used to be extra defensive while playing Test by picking seven to eight batsmen in their playing XI.
Though the ploy hardly paid off in the opening Test against Sri Lanka considering there was nothing for the bowlers in the Pallekele wicket that produced 1289 runs in a high-scoring draw.
