Andrew Cuomo, and the Franklin and Essex County health departments are preparing to run mass vaccination clinics, should the state ask counties to disseminate the coronavirus vaccine.

High winds in Sitka cause temporary power outage Posted by Katherine Rose | Dec 23, 2020 ( Sitka experienced widespread power outages shortly after 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning (12-23-20). The outage affected Electric Department customers on Halibut Point Road and Sawmill Creek Road, throughout downtown Sitka and on Japonski Island. It lasted around two hours.  In an email to KCAW, Electric Department Director Scott Elder wrote that the windy conditions caused the outage. A damaged tree fell into a transmission line on Jarvis Street around 1:11 a.m. Electric crews removed the tree and power was restored to all of Sitka shortly before 3 a.m.

Updated: Dec 18, 2020 10:48 AM Power Outage Planned for Pawhuska Friday Evening   Ty Loftis The City of Pawhuska will experience a power outage lasting around 30 minutes on Friday. Utilities Director Bill Bruce lets us know the reasoning behind the expected outage. To prepare for the outage, members of the Electric Department started up the generators last Saturday and Wednesday as well to make sure there were no issues moving forward. Bruce expects the actual project to take anywhere between 10 and 14 hours, but he details what the department will be working on while the town is without power. The power outage will occur sometime Friday evening. 

TVA and Athens Utilities give support community agencies

    The Tennessee Valley Authority recently announced a second round of Cares funding for non-profit agencies. TVA partnered with local power companies like Athens Utilities to provide these funds to support local initiatives that benefit communities.   For this second round, TVA allocated $20,000 for Limestone County, and Athens Utilities allocated $20,000 from the Electric Department’s marketing budget for a total of $40,000. TVA and Athens Utilities also allocated $20,000 each during the first round of TVA Cares funding distributed in May.   “These agencies make a difference in the lives of our citizens, and I am glad we can join TVA in supporting their work,” Athens Electric Department Manager Blair Davis said.

City makes changes because of virus cases Oakridger In light of increases in the number of people infected with COVID-19, city of Oak Ridge officials issued updates Thursday on the status of city facilities. “Due to the significant increase in COVID cases, city officials strongly urge citizens to conduct their business over the phone and by mail whenever possible,” stated a news release from City Manager Mark Watson. Information below is from that news release. The city of Oak Ridge is supporting the “Tennessee Pledge” efforts by the state government.
