ERCOT ends emergency operations as grid returns to normal, but many North Texans are still without power
The operator is no longer asking people to conserve electricity, CEO Bill Magness said. Dangerous road and water conditions remain.
The state’s power grid returned to normal Friday morning even as many North Texans were still without electricity because of damage from the winter storm.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which oversees the state’s power grid, ended emergency operations about 10:35 a.m. Friday, CEO Bill Magness said, and the agency was no longer asking people to conserve their power.
Any remaining outages are probably due to damaged lines from fallen trees, he said.
Texas’ electrical system was “seconds or minutes” from collapsing and plunging the state into the dark for months, the power grid’s operators said Thursday.
