Virginia-based AES is a power generation company that operates in the U.S. and 15 other countries. AES has a long history of firsts. This includes being the first Independent Power Producer in the U.S. (1988), creating the first documented carbon offset program in the U.S. (1989) and in 2021, the AES Alamitos Battery Energy Storage System became the world’s first standalone energy storage project for local capacity.
AMP Energy Invests $2 Billion In Australian Renewable Energy Hub
Amp Energy (Amp), A Toronto-based clean energy global developer, has invested over $2 billion in establishing the 1.3 GW Renewable Energy Hub of South Australia (REHSA). Amp may be stationed in Canada, but it has a growing portfolio in Australia.
The new facility will integrate the large-scale wind, PV (Photovoltaics), and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assets and incorporate the Spencer Gulf Hydrogen Energy Ecoplex. It will be including at least three massive solar projects, two of which would supply South Australia’s green hydrogen ambitions.
The PV projects include Robertstown (636 MW), Bungama (336 MW), and Yoorndoo Ilga (388 MW). There will be a total BESS capacity of up to 540MW across the portfolio. Overall, the projects will create sufficient electricity to power 230,000 homes annually. Plus, Amp plans to generate hydrogen for domestic and export markets from the Spencer facility to ports in Asia.

Agilitas Energy is starting pre-construction work of its latest battery energy storage project, a 3 MW / 9 MWh lithium-ion system in Pascoag, Rhode Island. This is the first Battery Energy Storage System to be constructed by Agilitas Energy in Rhode Island and it is planned to enter commercial operation by the second quarter of 2022.
“The battery storage system will allow us to modernize our infrastructure and avoid the more costly re-construction of existing transmission lines. The battery energy storage systems help fulfill our goal to control costs while we assure reliable power,” said Mike Kirkwood, General Manager of the District.

Eventually, the wide application of energy storage will result in the end-consumers’ power usage cost-savings. The cost of electricity supply will decrease because electricity can be stored at a lower cost when the demand is low and discharged when the demand is high. The cost to deliver the electricity may also be redu
