The Colombian community in Arizona gathered for a candlelight vigil at a small park in downtown Phoenix to honor those who have lost their lives while protesting against tax reform, police brutality and economic and social issues in Colombia.
This is the second week that Arizona residents have gathered to show solidarity with demonstrations in Colombia. On Sunday, about 200 Colombians in the state held their own demonstration in Phoenix to show support for Colombians and to create an open space for people to speak on recent events.
Among crowded streets lined with parked cars and people walking to nearby restaurants, about 20 people gathered at M.O. Best Mini Park on Friday and lit a row of tall candles while holding signs, one of which read, From Arizona, we re with you, and We re all Colombia, we re all one nation. SOS Colombia, in Spanish.
