Posted: May 14, 2021 10:13 PM Posted By: Mary Peters It s a decision that came from the Minnesota High School League earlier this week.  KIMT News 3 Sports spoke with Minnesota USA Wrestling about the big news.  Minnesota is now the 32nd state to make high school girls wrestling a sanctioned sport.  Girls and women s Minnesota USA wrestling is excited, to say the least.  When I was waiting for the word, every second that went by, the excitement was building and as soon as I got the test message that the vote had passed, I was so loud.  I was so ecstatic, says Chad Shilson, Director and Coach at Girls and Women s USA Wrestling.

MSHSL Approves Girls Wrestling Postseason, No Boys Volleyball Get our free mobile app The amendment was approved by a 44-4 vote. The addition of a Girls Wrestling Division in the postseason will be enacted during the 2021-2022 school year. During the 2019-2020 season, 153 girls in Minnesota participated in high school wrestling. More than 21,000 female wrestlers are competing nationally. In other action, the Representative Assembly fell two votes short of approving the addition of Boys Volleyball as a League-sanctioned activity. Twenty-nine members of the Representative Assembly voted in favor of the proposed amendment and 18 against with one abstention. With the abstention, the requirement threshold was 31 affirmative votes.

Posted: May 11, 2021 10:32 PM Posted By: Mary Peters One of the votes went in not sanctioning boys volleyball in high schools.  KIMT News 3 Sports asked the President of the Minnesota Boys High School Volleyball Association about this decision.  The MSHSL decided Tuesday that high school boys volleyball will still not be a sanctioned sport in the state.   It failed to pass by just two votes.  Why you wouldn t vote for this for students, just in general, is really hard for us to understand, says Jenny Kilkelly, President of the Minnesota Boys High School Volleyball Association.
