Detroit Lakes may sue neighboring townships over 2-mile extraterritorial dispute
Members of the Detroit Lakes City Council and city staff debated actions, including potential lawsuits, against the city s neighboring townships who have decided to push forward with their plans to craft subdivision ordinances with Becker County, which would leave the city without any control over the land divisions under 5-acres within two miles of the city s borders.

Detroit Lakes may end up taking six surrounding townships to court to preserve its ability to control subdivision zoning in the two-mile extraterritorial zone outside city limits.

Prosecutors in the George Floyd case took the unusual step Thursday of asking the Minnesota Court of Appeals to intervene after a lower court twice refused their request to hold one trial in the summer for all four ex-Minneapolis police officers charged in the case.
The strongly worded request from Attorney General Keith Ellison s office accused Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill of violating state law and abusing his discretion when he ordered that one trial would start in March and a second would start five months later.
Ellison s office, which is leading the prosecution, had argued for one trial in the summertime when more people would be vaccinated against COVID-19.
The annual Eagles Cancer Telethon retains its mantle as the longest locally run telethon in the country.

The show must go on.
For 66 years, the Fifth District Eagles Cancer Telethon had found ways to make sure that happened, and even a global pandemic couldn t stop the 67th consecutive show on Saturday.
But it was different.
The hosts were still live, though this time from KTTC-TV studios instead of the Civic Center. And the presentations and performances were recordings from past telethons rather than live on stage. Normally 20 hours, the show was shortened to eight.
