A North Dakota man traveled 113,000 miles in 14 years to gather stories from elders in every town in the state

The stories are different, but the themes come through clearly – deprivation, family, patriotism and faith.
Some 617 stories, many from the Great Depression and World War II, were gathered by one man who took 14 years to drive 113,000 miles over North Dakota’s gravel roads and paved highways to every town in the state – from Abercrombie to Zeeland, from the Red River Valley to the western Badlands.
“There was an untapped resource out there,” said Jim Puppe, who grew up on a Pembina County farm. “I was able to capture remarkable stories, tons of wisdom, and appreciate the resiliency. I could not stop.”

A longtime morning host on WCCO Radio News Talk 830 is retiring this spring.
In an emotional announcement Friday (listen below), Dave Lee, who has been with the station for 32 years, said he ll retire on April 30. I m Scandinavian, I m not supposed to get emotional, Lee said.
Lee, a North Dakota native, started his radio broadcasting career at 790 KFGO Radio in Fargo, North Dakota, WCCO Radio says.
In 1989, at age 28, he was the program director and afternoon drive host. That s when former WCCO Radio Program Director Jon Quick, who was scouting for new talent, heard Lee on the radio and hired him.
Badgers Upset By Maryland, Big Ten Win Streak Is History (AUDIO)

Just hours after climbing to sixth in the Associated Press Top 25 Men’s College Basketball Poll, the Wisconsin Badgers were upset by the Maryland Terrapins 70-64 on Monday night at the Kohl Center.
Wisconsin’s 10-game Big Ten win streak, which dated back to last season, is history. So is Wisconsin’s 15-game home court winning streak at the Kohl Center.
The Badgers failed to touch the post on a consistent basis, which is a big part of their offense. Wisconsin was outscored in the paint 38-18, as Badger big men Micah Potter and Nate Reuvers failed to make an impact. Potter made just 2 of his 8 field goal attempts and finished with four points and five rebounds. Reuvers made 4 of his 10 shots and finished with eight points and six rebounds.
Badgers To Face Wake Forest In Mayo Bowl
The Wisconsin football team, after knocking off the rival Minnesota Gophers 20-17 in overtime to reclaim possession of Paul Bunyan’s Axe, the Badgers (3-3) landed a in the Dec. 30 Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte.
The Badgers will face Wake Forest (4-4) in the 11 a.m. matchup (ESPN).
The bowl game will be the 19th in a row for Wisconsin, which is the longest current streak among Big Ten teams. It is the second-longest bowl streak in Big Ten history, trailing only Michigan’s 33 straight seasons from 1975 through 2007.
Wisconsin and Wake Forest has never met. The last time the Badgers faced an ACC team in a bowl game was a 35-3 victory over Miami in the 2018 Pinstripe Bowl.
