The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources on Monday announced new burning restrictions across much of northern Minnesota where a drought continues to worsen and wildfires continue to burn.
Campfires are banned starting Tuesday outside developed campgrounds and away from homes, cabins or resorts in St. Louis, Lake, Cook, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Beltrami and eastern Roseau counties.
The new burning restrictions mean campfires are not allowed for dispersed campers at 40 state forests, while backcountry campfires are not allowed at 26 state parks and recreation areas in those counties even if the backcountry campsite has a fire ring. Camping stoves are permitted.
