The morning of Sunday, May 2, Jennifer T. Austin’s neighbors texted her about the vandals’ handiwork the “N-word” in black spray paint on sidewalk before her house, a stolen LGBTQ pride yard sign, and two additional signs marred by paint. “I gasped. I was so angry,” said Austin, who is white, as is her husband. “That’s an attack on the Black members of our community. I can deal with a little bit of property destruction. I will not stand for that kind of attack on my fellow citizens of Midland. I’m just disgusted by it.”
