New Variants of the COVID-19 Virus Appearing in Midland/Odessa Hospitals
The new COVID-19 variants are now showing up in Midland/Odessa hospitals as vaccinations slow down.
According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, three patients in Midland Memorial Hospital so far have tested positive for the UK variant and one tested positive for the California variant.
Medical Center Hospital in Odessa has one patient that tested positive for the Brazilian variant according to hospital officials.
Variants of the coronavirus have local health officials on edge because the new variants may be less effective to the vaccine in preventing the serious complications and hospitalization.
Ector Theatre Finishes Remodel and is Now Ready to Schedule Events
The Ector Theatre in Odessa has been closed since 2016, but now with a revamped look and being next to the new Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, the theatre is ready to host events again.
According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, the theatre s revamping construction began in 2019 about the time the Marriott was reaching completion.
Many people who have lived in Odessa for years have fond memories of the Ector Theatre.
“Somebody here in this room worked in the theatre, somebody here had their first date at this theatre. People came here to see movies, live performances, theatrical, rock, country you name it. This theatre is in the fabric of Odessa’s community,” said Odessa Arts Executive Director Randy Ham.
Midland Health Reports Thousands Are Coming From El Paso For COVID-19 Vaccine
With everyone being eligible for the vaccine here in Midland, some areas are travelling hundreds of miles to get the vaccine.
According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Midland Health reported that of the more than 50,000 people that got the vaccine in March, that around 2,000 of them showed a zip code that started with 7976 which is Odessa and others are showing 7991 which is the El Paso area.
“The state s been very clear on this,” Meyers said about people from coming from all over, including Mexico for shots. “We ve asked them the question several times. There are no geographic restrictions to getting vaccinations at any site in Texas. So if you can produce some form of ID, and you re willing to tell us about yourself, including where you live, then we will put a shot in your arm even if you re from Mexico, and there are a handful (less than 20 people) with Mexico addresses who have been vaccina
