Carlton forward Mitch McGovern is facing an extended period on the sidelines after injuring his hamstring in Sunday’s win over Essendon.
McGovern suffered the high-grade hamstring injury in the final minutes of the game, with the Blues confirming on Tuesday night that he’s set to miss between 8-10 weeks.
In better news for the club, both Jack Silvagni and Zac Williams are likely to be available for their Round 8 match against Western Bulldogs.
But Marc Murphy remains touch and go for the game after sustaining a neck injury at training last week.
“(Jack Silvagni will) train fully this week and put his hand up, he’s a test later in the week. He’s a good, strong chance to be out there,” Carlton Director of High Performance Amdrew Russell said in a club statement.

Carlton coach David Teague has praised key forward Harry McKay for playing through illness in the sideâs win over Essendon on Sunday.
McKay was quiet early, but finished with four goals from 12 disposals and six marks. His efforts as the primary target were ultimately the difference in the match.
âI was super proud of Harryâs game. He wonât want me to say this, but he was a bit under the weather going into the game and he said ânah I can get the job done for you coachâ,â Teague said post-match.

Footy fans were treated to an old-fashioned shootout as Carlton bested Essendon 123-107 in a high-scoring affair on Sunday at the MCG.
The historical rivals traded blows all afternoon with the ball moving freely from end to end throughout.
Essendon started the game well before Carlton brought them back at half-time with the margin remaining tight until the Blues began to pull away late.
Ultimately, Carlton had a little too much class for the Bombers with Sam Walsh continuing his remarkable season thus far with 33 disposals and a goal.
