Suspects remain on loose after manhunt in Warwick

WARWICK - Two suspects in an ongoing firearms investigation remained on the loose Friday, after spurring a police chase from Delaware into Warwick - where scores of residents were placed on lockdown amid a manhunt that lasted approximately six hours and involved several departments and numerous officers, according to the Cecil County Sheriff s Office. Dover (Del.) Police Department officials contacted the CCSO at 5:48 p.m. on Thursday and advised that law enforcement officers in that area were looking for two fugitives - Rahiem Jackson, 23; and Maya Hairston, 24, both of Dover - after they had fled from federal agents in that town earlier that day, reported CCSO Chief Deputy Gerald K. Widdoes.

Community Relations Officer Jay Bodell completed a 14-day K-9 school in New York on Friday and was paired with Bear. Bear is a 21-month-old black lab who first started training at just 8 weeks old, according to the Middletown Police Department. He was trained in multiple maximum-security prisons throughout New York by inmates known as “Puppy Raisers,” meaning he was training with someone 24/7. Bear is trained to assist wounded war veterans and first responders who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, traumatic brain injuries and depression get through everyday life. Service dogs know approximately 90 different commands and have over 10,00 hours of socialization in schools, airports, malls, churches and more, police said.

Maryland Authorities Update Shooting Suspects Manhunt – First State Update

On Thursday, May 6, 2021, at 5:48 p.m. the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Dover (DE) Police Department in reference to attempting to locate two fugitives who fled from police, according to Cecil County Sheriff Chief Deputy Gerald Widdoes. Both suspects were wanted in regards to a shooting incident and units were advised that the suspects were believed to be armed. Units from the United States Marshal’s Service Task Force out of Dover attempted to arrest these individuals which resulted in the subjects fleeing in a vehicle driving down the sidewalk of a Dover business to avoid being pinned in by police. Units lost the suspect vehicle however it was spotted again a short while later and another pursuit ensued this time entering into Maryland where the suspects were able to evade police again.

DuBois has served unprecedented five four-year terms, running unopposed since 2006. He is the longest serving sheriff in the history of Orange County and currently the fourth longest serving sheriff in New York State. His promise to the voters in 2002 was to bring the Sheriff’s Office into the 21st Century which he and his staff have done. The office has achieved five accreditations, two from the New York State Sheriff’s Association and three national accreditations, receiving the Triple Crown Award in 2016 from the National Sheriff’s Association. Less than 100 Sheriff’s Offices out of 3000 nationwide have achieved this status, and since then have continued to maintain those accreditations with periodical audits.
