Whether he wants to talk about it or not, Kamaru Usman is entering mythical territory.
A dozen wins to start his UFC career. Only Anderson Silva and Khabib Nurmagomedov have done it. That streak is also tied with Georges St-Pierre for the longest welterweight win streak in UFC history. The record can be Usman’s with a successful title defense in Saturday’s UFC 258 main event.
Easier said than done.
If you were going to design a dangerous challenger for Usman, you couldn’t do much better than Gilbert Burns. “Durinho” knows Usman well, having trained with him in the past, and he brings the kind of finishing ability that has been absent from Usman’s otherwise outstanding run through the division. UFC on ABC 1 delivered with a fun card and some really good match-ups. The lineup included two female bouts, one between Sarah Moras and Vanessa Melo and another that pitted Yanan Wu against Joselyne Edwards.
I also previewed Claire Guthrie’s fight against Nadine Mandiau, but I was unable to watch that Legacy Fighting Alliance contest due to work and have yet to see it. From what I understand, it was all Guthrie as she cruised to a decision win.
After my review of the UFC on ABC 1 fights, I will give a brief synopsis of the midweek UFC on ESPN 20 card’s female fights. It won’t be my normal extended preview, but it’s a little something extra.

I’m baaaccckkkk!
After taking a hiatus for my own fight, I can now return to preview fights involving other people. Before I get into this weekend’s contests, I want to quickly give a thank you to everyone on social media who offered me a great deal of support. The decision didn’t go my way, and I’m never happy about that. However, I challenged myself, moved up a weight class, and felt that I represented myself well. I won’t go into details and bore you with a rehash of my fight when what you really want to read about is the upcoming fights, but I just wanted to say thanks. The support I received before the fight, on fight day, and after the bout was amazing. I always say that without fans, there are no fights. No one is paying us to get in there if there are no fans, so to receive such support meant more than I can express. This isn’t the last of me; I’m not going anywhere.
