Local pharmacies report high demand as new coronavirus vaccine tier opens

Columbia-area pharmacies are helping in the effort to give out coronavirus vaccines to members of Missouri s newly opened tier of eligible residents.

D&H Drugstore owner and pharmacist Tanya Alberty said D&H stores expect to receive at least 100 doses of the vaccine each week, according to the Missouri Pharmacy Association. But Alberty says it s not uncommon for her stores to receive more than just the 100 doses. Its been busy . I think we did just over 600 with second doses and then first doses on top of that last week, Alberty said.

CENTRALIA - About 30 miles northeast of Columbia sits Kinkead Pharmacy in the center of Centralia.
The owner, Michael Kinkead, said he came back to where he grew up to work with his dad, who originally owned the pharmacy.
Kinkead Pharmacy will soon receive consistent COVID-19 vaccine shipments from the state. Alex Angle, KOMU 8 Reporter
âI really enjoyed the personal service and knowing people so coming back here was just the only thing I could doâ Kinkead said.
Kinkead has personal relationships with many of his customers. KOMU 8 News asked if he knew many of his patients.
âOf course, yeah. Some of them I grew up with.â
