CEC’s personal attack on one of the EC commissioners

It is sad that the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) has personally attacked Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar for his criticism of the Election Commission s performance in the recently held local government elections. In a programme held on the National Voters Day, Mahbub Talukdar pointed out that there was no level-playing field in the elections and that voter turnout dropped because of the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM). He also brought to the notice of all the various irregularities violence, vandalism of EVMs, and grabbing of polling centres seen in these elections. The statement made by EC Mahbub was not personal in any sense, rather it was institutional. Sadly, instead of addressing his concerns, the CEC criticised him personally, saying that EC Mahbub was trying to disgrace the commission. Such a comment by the CEC is unexpected

CEC fumes after the commissioner says no level playing field in polls

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda yesterday came down on Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar after the latter said level playing field was not being ensured for all in polls.
At a programme in the Nirbachan Bhaban, Mahbub said voter turnout dropped alarmingly whenever Electronic Voting Machines were used.
He also said local government elections have turned into a model of irregularities due to polls violence, grabbing of polling centres, and vandalism of EVMs.
Immediately after the election commissioner s speech ended, the CEC went straight on to the stage and started criticising Mahbub. All the other commissioners and senior EC officials were present at the event, organised to mark the National Voters Day.

Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar is doing whatever necessary to disgrace and undermine the current Election Commission, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda said today.
