Mysore/Mysuru: The by-polls to
Belagavi Lok Sabha Constituency and Maski and Basavakalyan Assembly segments began on a brisk note this morning.
The by-election of Belagavi LS seat was necessitated by the death of Suresh Angadi, who was a Union Minister of State for Railways, while the by-poll for Basavakalyan segment in Bidar district was necessitated by the death of sitting Congress MLA B.Narayanrao and that for Maski due to the defection of the then Congress MLA Pratapgouda Patil to the BJP.
The by-poll is taking place even as the country is witnessing a massive spike in COVID-19 infections. However, the polls are being held in accordance with COVID-19 SOPs and all precautionary and safety measures in place.

Bengaluru, April 17 : The by-polls to the three seats - one Lok Sabha and two Assembly constituencies - in Karnataka was peaceful on Saturday with a modest voter turnout amid the Covid-19 scare.
According to the figures available from the office of the Election Commission, the voter turnout in Belgaum Lok Sabha seat was reported to be 54.73 per cent while 50.57 per cent in Basavakalyan. However, the Maski Assembly segments witnessed the highest voter turnout with 70.48 per cent.

Barring a few instances of boycott and an overarching presence of the pandemic, polling for the byelections to the Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency and Maski and Basavakalyan Legislative Assembly constituencies passed off smoothly on Saturday.
Maski Assembly segment recorded the highest polling percentage of 70.48 followed by Basavakalyan – 59.57 and Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency – 54.61. Unmindful of the scorching sun, people came out to vote in good numbers in Basavakalyan and Maski.
