Makinen man sentenced to 11 years for shooting at motorist

VIRGINIA â A Makinen man was sentenced to nearly 11 years in prison for opening fire on a random motorist last year. Daniel Edmund Reitmajer, 25, pleaded guilty in November to one charge of attempted intentional second-degree murder by drive-by shooting stemming from a February 2020 incident in which he shot into a vehicle on Townline Road in Makinen in what authorities then called a ârandom act of violenceâ that resulted in no injuries. Reitmajer entered a Norgaard plea in State District Court in Virginia, which allowed him to assert that he was unable to recall all the facts of the incident due to intoxication or otherwise, while acknowledging that there is sufficient evidence to obtain a conviction.

PHILADELPHIAÂ â A former Delaware County public defender claims in a federal lawsuit that he was fired from his position in the office earlier this year due to his age and disabilities associated with a stroke he suffered several years ago. Leigh J. Bechtle, 71, is alleging claims for violations of the Rehabilitation Act, Americans with Disabilities Act and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, for which he is seeking compensatory and related damages. According to a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania last month, Bechtle graduated cum laude from Ohio University and earned his law degree from Widener University School of Law before his admittance to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1979.
