The district administration of District South busted a charged parking scam on Friday in different areas of the district and arrested several collectors of illegal charged parking fees.
According to details shared by the District South Deputy Commissioner (DC) Office, the charged parking department of the District Municipal Corporation (DMC) South took action against charged parking fee collectors who were collecting fees on fake parking slips. The operation was carried out on the direction of South Deputy Commissioner Irshad Sodhar.
The parking mafia was charging exorbitant rates of parking at their own behest in different areas of the district. The action was taken in Cooperative Market Saddar, Mobile Market on Abdullah Haroon Road, and around Civil Hospital and adjoining areas. The deputy commissioners posted in all districts of Karachi have been declared heads of operations of different municipal works and civic services in their respective jurisdictions.
A notification to this effect has been issued by Sindh Local Government Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah after approval from the chief minister.
The DCs in their respective jurisdictions will now look after civic and municipal services related to these offices: chief engineer of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation; superintending engineers, Karachi Water & Sewerage Board; municipal commissioner of the District Municipal Corporation; director/deputy director, Sindh Solid Waste Management Board; deputy director (municipal services), KMC; director/deputy director, Anti-Encroachment, KMC; and the DSP Anti-Encroachment Force, Board of Revenue, Government of Sindh.
Karachi: The Sindh Government has successfully rolled out a pilot project to launch a web portal-based service to electronically collect municipal tax at the district-level.
The pilot project has been launched in the District Central of Karachi that is the most populous district among seven districts of the provincial capital.
The pilot project is aimed at plugging the pilferage in collection of the municipal tax by the district administration.
The web portal-based system will be implemented in all districts of the province in a gradual manner.
The local traders and business proprietors in the area are given the opportunity free of charge to get registered with the web portal for payment of the municipal taxes to the District Municipal Corporation (DMC).
