“Applications for the grants were many and a total of $81,188 was requested during round two,” says Sharon Tropin who coordinated the grants distribution process for the Yorkton & District Community Foundation. “In the spring, during round one, many of the applications were for projects to address physical needs. In round two those needs were still present and there was a definite increase in applications for projects supporting mental health.” Tropin also noted that during the past nine months local non-profit groups have worked very hard to understand the needs of the people they serve and that the groups had to come up with creative solutions to keep their programs going and workers, volunteers and clients safe. Recipients of the $30,000 will be announced early in January.
“
Co-operatives are always involved in their communities and wherever we serve throughout Western Canada cooperatives are known for caring about their customers and the community at large,” says Gene Krepakevich, Vice President of Legacy Co-op. “It gives us great pleasure to be able to give back to our community.”
With this donation Legacy Co-op is establishing a named endowment fund that will grow year after year to support annual grants, local charities, and communities in the district.
Yorkton & District Community Foundation is operated by a local volunteer board of directors and is a member of Community Foundations of Canada. Community foundations connect donors and charities to identify and address local community needs, advocate for meaningful social change and to make meaningful and lasting contributions to the well-being of the community.

KDCF grants over $100,000 to community organizations
Over the past year, the Kimberley & District Community Foundation (KDCF) has granted over $100,000 to assist community groups and organizations in their efforts during these difficult times.
The KDCF annually provides grants to community groups that focus on social welfare, health, education, the environment, arts and culture, and sport. This year over $21,000 was granted to deserving community groups, teams, programs, and initiatives.
In addition, the KDCF partnered with the Vancouver Foundation and the Community Foundations of Canada’s Federal Emergency Community Support Fund to provide over $80,000 to community groups that were experiencing financial concerns due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
