The Credit Guarantee Scheme is the biggest ever state-backed loan guarantee in Ireland. The Scheme offers an 80% Government guarantee to participating lenders to provide Irish businesses, including those in the farming and fishing sectors, with access to low interest loans as they respond to the impacts of COVID-19.

Submitted photo Looking back over 2020, the Nelson CARES Society has had much to be grateful for in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. So many of their efforts have come to fruition, and they have the community and their staff to thank for much of their successes. As they head into the New Year, they need to continue to fundraise for their Ready for Home program. They just launched their upcoming Coldest Night of the Year campaign (CNOY).

Will these businesses survive to serve residents once the pandemic has passed – however long that may take?  And what can residents do to help ensure their survival – at least, those residents who haven’t suffered disastrous losses of income themselves? Lori Craig and her husband Bill started Better Life Fitness sixteen years ago,  renovating the old Nelson and District Credit Union building and providing a space and the equipment for people to do their walking or running on treadmills, or to use the lower-impact elliptical trainers, and to develop strength using a variety of other machines, and weights.  People recovering from injuries and surgeries and dealing with disabilities have all benefited from the gym and Lori’s expertise.
