Psychologist finds man is not capable of assisting with his own defense The Daily Jeffersonian A Cambridge area man facing three separate felony cases charging him with assault and drug-related offenses was recently found incompetent to stand trial in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court. James C. Asp, 50, was found to be incompetent following an evaluation by Dr. Jaime Adkins of the Forensic Diagnostic Center of District Nine Inc. The court record stated it is the psychologist s opinion that defendant (Asp) does have a mental illness and is not currently capable of assisting counsel in his own defense. Adkins also determined Asp could be restored to competency in the time allowed by Ohio law one year if given a course of treatment at a secure facility.
