Broccoli and Brussels sprouts are among Christian Mongendre’s favourite vegetables, but the Hong Kong-born chef, who owns Treehouse.eco, a vegetarian and vegan restaurant in the city’s Central district, understands why some people turn their noses up at them.
“They may not look at these vegetables as interesting or exciting. When they were young they might have been forced to eat overcooked, mushy broccoli and Brussels sprouts, so now as adults they remember these veggies as looking unappetising and tasting even worse,” Mongendre says.

Maidstone councillors have appointed their Mayor Select who will take over the borough s foremost civic role from the present Mayor, Marion Ring, in May.
It is Cllr Fay Gooch.

Cllr Gooch sits as an Independent and has represented Barming and Teston Ward since 2008. She is the present deputy mayor
Her sponsors at last night s full council meeting were full of her praises.
Cllr Steve Munford (Ind) reassured the borough that Fay has still got all her marbles.

A huge makeover of a popular town centre attraction will include the addition of a food hall, an outside terrace for al fresco dining and a children s play area.
Maidstone council is to spend £900,000 to make its Lockmeadow complex in Barker Road a more attractive destination.

The council purchased a 105-year lease on the property in November 2019 for £19million but has been unable to find tenants for two of the restaurant units which have stood empty for four years. Another tenant, Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) has closed and will not be returning to the site.
