KARACHI: Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Saturday said that with coordinated efforts, the provincial and federal governments had started different projects in the city, including remodelling of major storm-water drains, water, drainage, road and transport sectors.
“In the larger interest of Karachi, setting aside all our political differences, we, all the stakeholders [the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan] sit together and chalk out plans to develop the city to make it one of the beautiful and liveable cities of the world,” he said.

Even as Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and federal ministers Asad Umar and Aminul Haque pledged on Saturday to set aside their differences and worked together for the uplift of Karachi, Umar maintained that differences between the Sindh and Centre remained on multiple issues.
They were addressing a joint press conference after a meeting of the Karachi Coordination Committee, where the Sindh CM and federal ministers resolved to clean nullahs in the metropolis before the onset of the monsoon season.

KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday observed that gangs and land grabbing mafias were operating in the city with the support of government officials besides the Sindh Building Control Authority’s unauthorized permission for scores of high-rise buildings that will subsequently turn the city into a graveyard.
Hearing the petitions against illegal encroachments on public parks and amenity lands in Karachi, the SC’s three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, directed the chief minster Sindh to submit a report about the steps being taken for remedying the state of affairs in Karachi.
At the outset of the proceedings, the chief justice inquired from the additional advocate general about the compliance of SC directions given to the CM Sindh to correct the state of affairs of Karachi as there was a total collapse of civic agencies in Karachi.
