Singapore Airlines resumes operation to the Maldives Singapore Airlines on Tuesday resumed operation to the Maldives. Singapore Airlines last year suspended its flight to the Maldives due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the resumption of flights, three weekly flights will be operated to the Maldives, said the airline. According to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the weekly flights are scheduled for Fridays, Saturdays and Tuesdays. Singapore Airlines have been operating to the Maldives since 1984. The airline’s subsidiaries, SilkAir and Scoot also operate to the Maldives. The number of international airlines operating to the Maldives is now at 30. Out of these, 23 airlines operate scheduled flights to the Maldives.

One person is reported to have dislocated a shoulder in this incident, with Manta Air confirming that all those onboard had been discharged from Tree Top Hospital and Hulhumale Hospital just before noon on Saturday.

During the ceremony held at Velana International Airport (VIA) to welcome the first tourist of 2021 to Maldives, Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Ahmed Hussain gifted him a loyalty card from the bronze tier of the Maldives Border Miles programme. Effective January 1, 2021 onwards, the loyalty programme enables registered visitors to earn points by travelling to Maldives. Points are allocated to tourists under a criteria which includes the duration of their stay, frequency of travel, visits to celebrate special occasions and visits on Maldivian celebrations.

The Maldives Border Miles loyalty program enables registered visitors to earn points by travelling to Maldives from January 1, 2021 onwards. While arrivals were lower than expected following border reopening, there has been a increase in visitors each month since. The country welcomed the 100,000th visitor since border reopening, last Saturday.
