MUST Invests K2 6 Billion for Economic Independence

Speaking on Tuesday after the second graduation ceremony that was presided over by President Lazarus Chakwera, MUST Vice Chancellor Professor Address Malata said 1.3 billion kwacha will be used to develop the industrial park where they manufacture soft drinks for sale while the other remaining cash will be under endowment fund to support needy students. “MUST is a solution-based university. We are doing everything possible to promote quality tertiary education,” said Prof Malata.

Lazarus Chakwera Installed MUST Chancellor

By Caroline Nyalugwe Thyolo, May 18, Mana:  President Lazarus Chakwera has been installed as the second chancellor of the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) since its establishment in 2012 by late Professor Bingu Wa Mutharika. In his address during the 2nd congregation at the University’s campus in Thyolo on Tuesday, Chakwera said university graduates such as those from MUST are a pillar towards the achievement of MW2063.  “Graduates have to be equipped with scientific, technological skills and knowledge which will help end poverty in Malawi as we are moving towards achieving the Agenda 2063,” Chakwera said. He said a graduation ceremony is called a commencement because it marks the beginning of a new life and not the end in itself.

Speaking on Friday during the fulfilment of the K5.5 million for Vice Chancellor Innovation Award at Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), Chief Executive Officer for Smile Life Insurance Company, Stain Singo, said the country needs to use all available means to achieve industrial development. “The country has the potential to develop through achievement of commercialization to boost the economy,” said Singo.
