CineArts at the Empire, which first began screening films in the silent movie era, will not reopen, parent company Cinemark Holdings Inc. announced this week.
The closure is a “normal course of business and the result of the careful and ongoing review of our theatre fleet, particularly in light of the impact of COVID-19,” Cinemark said in a statement.

An organization advocating for victims of human trafficking has launched an online learning tool in an effort to raise awareness and tackle the often hidden issue.
Country music star and advocate Paul Brandt, who founded the #NotInMyCity initiative, said the free platform provides a “basic 101 education” on sexual exploitation and trafficking with information on how to identify risk factors and what can be done to address the crime.

“There are many barriers to truly understanding human trafficking. It requires a willingness to dive into a challenging and dark topic and to understand the differences and connections between vulnerability, exploitation, selling sex and trafficking,” said Brandt in an e-mail.
The Kiwanis Club of Young Professionals St Catherine (KCYPSC) of Division 23 West hosted its inaugural Signature Project in the form of a Back-to-School Project on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Ellerslie Gardens in Spanish Town.
The project, which was initially organised to provide for 100 children, exceeded its expectations by providing for over 200 children, according to the organisers.
Kiwanis International mantra is ‘Serving the Children of the World’. It is with this in mind that the club did a community analysis in this low income community in Spanish Town, identified their needs and decided to help children whose parents are single mothers, unemployed mothers and fathers with back to school supplies, said the club in a press release.

While we wait to find out who is going to land the $1 billion Mega Million jackpot, three South Floridians have proven to be lucky in their own right.
Stephanie Wright, 52, of Miami Gardens, scored a $1 million top prize from the Bonus Triple Match scratch-off game, Florida Lottery officials announced Thursday.
She decided to take her winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $875,000.
