Myles Kennedy s new solo album The Ides of March provides a snapshot of the ides of the pandemic | Q106 Rock On! | WJXQ

By Syndicated Content Napalm Records Myles Kennedy‘s new solo album The Ides of March is being released in May, but it does reflect perhaps the most impactful March in recent history: March 2020, the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the Alter Bridge frontman tells ABC Audio, he wrote The Ides of March between March and July of last year, and he sees the record as a “snapshot” of those early months of the pandemic. “Now, when I listen to some of these songs, you can really sense how much we didn’t understand or we didn’t know what was coming,” Kennedy muses.

Why the hell did I get these opportunities? : Myles Kennedy on jamming with Led Zeppelin and Slash

No delusions of grandeur: Myles Kennedy Myles Kennedy refuses to call himself a rock star. “I’ve always felt like I’m just a songwriter and a damn lucky musician,” claims the 54-year-old singer and guitarist. “I don’t have any delusions of grandeur. I think of rock stars as Chuck Berry and Steven Tyler; there’s an element there that I don’t think is naturally in my DNA.” However, his CV disagrees. Since 2003, Kennedy has fronted Alter Bridge: a melodic metal institution who’ve cracked the UK Top 10 and twice sold out the Royal Albert Hall. In his downtime he’s the four-octave-spanning vocalist for the solo project of Guns N’ Roses icon Slash. He’s jammed with Led Zeppelin, cameoed in a Mark Wahlberg film and sung the theme song for a WWE wrestler – a checklist that any rock musician would rightfully envy. Plus, he’s releasing a second solo album, the flashy and guitar-governed The Ides of March, next week.

Myles Kennedy, however, is veering towards the latter part of the statement, the suggestion of rebirth and reprieve. While The Ides Of March isn’t in any way over zealous, it’s a wake-up call of sorts, an invitation to make the most of what we have and embrace a still-unveiling future.
