The demand for workers is high across the Northwoods.
“One company is registered they have over 20 openings. That’s just one company,” said Jenny Kowalczyk, employment and training specialist and TAA case coordinator with the Department of Workforce Development.
She said there are more than 50 companies registered for Wednesday’s virtual job fair.
“I know a couple companies have raised their minimum wage increase just to get the job seekers there. There definitely is a need for job seekers for our businesses in the Northwoods,” said Kowalczyk.
The virtual job fair covers employers in nine counties as far south as Wood stretching all the way to the Upper Peninsula border with Vilas and Forest Counties.

Marshfield Clinic Health Systems (MCHS) has unveiled plans to construct a major expansion of their Minocqua hospital, adding a dozen inpatient beds and costing upwards of $22 million.
The Minocqua plan commission Tuesday recommended approval of the Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua proposal as part of the conditional use permit (CUP) that MCHS needs to get a building permit issued by Oneida County.
As outlined by Dr. Michael Schaars, vice president of medical affairs at the Minocqua campus, the proposal calls for a 50,000-square-foot, two-story addition to the west side of the existing hospital off State Highway 70 West.
If MCHS obtains county and state permits in a timely manner, construction would start this fall, the Marshfield Clinic official said. Construction would take place over 12 months, with an additional three months needed to move in equipment, get it installed and tested.

Farms are a great place for kids to grow up, according to Marsha Salzwedel, youth ag safety specialist at Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation’s National Farm Medicine Center in Marshfield, Wis. Salzwedel and Cheryl Skjolaas, University of Wisconsin-Madison agricultural safety and health senior outreach specialist, spoke earlier this month during a Professional Dairy Producers webcast.
Salzwedel said growing up on a farm helps kids build character, and it instills them with a good work ethic. But she said there are also downsides to growing up on a farm.
Tragic numbers
Every day, 33 children in the United States are seriously injured on farms, she said. Every three days, a child on a U.S. farm dies in a farm accident.

MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) Officials with Marshfield Clinic have announced they will once again issue the single-dose Janssen COVID-19 vaccine, commonly known as the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, following a nationwide pause on the shot two weeks ago.
According to a press release, the vaccine will be issued at a limited number of sites in the Marshfield Clinic Health System. The release did not specify which sites those would be.
The vaccine will now come with a warning against a rare form of blood clots known as TTS. Six women in the US reported the syndrome, which comes with a rare combination of clotting and low platelet counts.
MARSHFIELD - Over 100 residents are asking the city to remove two Fire and Police Commission members involved in events that led to the removal of Mayor Bob McManus and for police to investigate them for misconduct.
City Administrator Steve Barg confirmed he received the 152-page complaint at 9:30 a.m. Monday from Marshfield resident Marisa Steinbach. Steinbach was unavailable Monday and Tuesday for an interview.
The complaint alleges both Andy Keogh and Randy Gershman violated several Wisconsin statutes and outlines both shared and individual infractions. The complaint says both Keogh and Gershman:
Failed to adhere to open meeting laws.
Failed to maintain proper electronic communication while in their elected positions.
