CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - It is week two of COVID-19 vaccinations in North Carolina.
Last week, the Pfizer vaccine shipped to hospitals across the state. On Monday, Atrium Health was one of the first in the state to get a shipment of the Moderna vaccine.
“There’s been a lot of emotions with the arrival of the vaccine,” Dr. Lewis McCurdy, Atrium Health Infectious Disease Specialist,” said. “There’s great excitement that it’s here and there’s almost a rush to sign up.”

Durham, N.C. The first shipments of Moderna s coronavirus vaccine arrived in North Carolina on Monday, with much of the state s allotment reserved for residents and staff of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
North Carolina nursing homes have seen more than 500 coronavirus outbreaks since the pandemic started, and about half of the state s 6,200 virus-related deaths have been in long-term care facilities.
State officials said they expect vaccinations to begin in nursing homes next week, and Johnnell Pepper, who lives at the Gardens of Roseboro facility in Sampson County, said she cannot wait to get her shot.
