Dostum’s Aides Seek Establishment of Federal Govt as Rifts Deepen Some aides to Marshal Dostum have sought the establishment of a federal government in north and northeastern Afghanistan following days of the rift over the appointment of the new government in Faryab.  The request has come from leadership members of the National Islamic Movement of Afghanistan, or Junbish-e-Milli, led by former vice president Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum.  Junbish members did not speak on the record about this matter, but angry protestors in Faryab on Friday chanted slogans in support of the establishment of a federal government in the country.

Protestors Block Access to Govt Offices in Faryab Protestors in the northern province of Faryab on Tuesday blocked the doors of at least five government offices as anger continues to grow over President Ashraf Ghani s appointment of a new governor for the province. Protestors threatened to close down all government departments in the province if their demands about the appointment of the governor are not met. Protestors on Tuesday closed the doors of the provincial municipality office, the department of women’s affairs, the department of labor and the department of public works.  Officials of the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) have said that the people of Faryab must accept the appointment of a new governor that is based on the law.
