High School Athletic Association s winter volleyball postseason kicks off on Tuesday. Each bracket has 32 teams, down from 64 a year ago, and was sorted with a random draw between teams with equal seeds. Those factors have led to some interesting first-round games that typically would be second-round or third-round games. These are 15 to watch closely (online, for most of us) on Tuesday night. Bracket: 3A West Fun fact: both of these teams will be 4A next fall.

It’s January, which means lacrosse season is right around the corner. In the many southern states, the high school lacrosse season is a month away or sooner, especially this year. High School lacrosse in the Tar Heel State is just 25 days away. January 25th marks opening day for teams in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) teams and February 15th marks the start of the season for teams in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISSA), which is made up entirely of private schools.

Photo published with owner s permission Three bobcats were spotted this week on Marvin Ridge Road the sixteenth sighting of the species this year, according the to New Canaan Police Department’s Animal Control section. The trio likely is composed of a mother bobcat and her two kittens, Officer Allyson Halm said. “There is a lot of good habitat,” Halm said, referring to the Hoyt Swamp, which runs between Marvin Ridge Road and Route 123 just north of the Merritt Parkway. “They tend to hide away, though sightings seem to be more common now.”
