WBGZ Radio 2/27/2021 | By Greg Bishop - Illinois Radio Network Taxpayers could be on the hook for the full monthly salary for three state lawmakers from one district for the month of February alone.  Illinois’ comptroller says the arcane state law must change. The law requires lawmakers to be paid for the full month even if they don t work the full month.  For the second time in less than a week, voters in former state Rep. Michael Madigan’s House district won’t get to select who should fill a vacancy. Madigan will. State law says a vacancy in a House seat before the end of a term, it’s filled by officials from the political party the former officeholder is affiliated with. Madigan controls 53 percent of the vote for the party in the district.
