The far-flung communities of Attawapiskat, Fort Albany and Neskantaga First Nations want a greater say on the size and scope of Ottawa s regional assessment process, and how mining in the James Bay lowlands could impact the environment and their way of life.

Matawa Vaccine Clinics On Hold

Vaccination clinics for some northern First Nation members are facing delays. The Matawa Health Co-operative has immunized nearly 600 people from its nine First Nation communities so far against COVID-19. However, officials say they don’t know when they will be able to hold another clinic, adding that many people are still waiting for their shot. They’ve held clinics in Thunder Bay for Matawa members and in Aroland First Nation. The other eight Matawa communities are Eabametoong, Marten Falls, Neskantaga, Nibinamik, Webequie, Constance Lake, Ginoogaming, and Long Lake #58 First Nations.

Mar 12, 2021 11:42 AM By: Thunder Bay Police An accused male arrested and charged amid an investigation into a robbery at a southside gas bar has received additional charges related to other incidents of robbery and theft. A 28-year-old male was arrested by the Thunder Bay Police Service on Monday, March 8 for his role in the March 6 robbery of an Esso on Arthur Street West. Continued investigation by members of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Break and Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit found the same accused was involved in other criminal incidents.
