Christmas Oratorio as Hausmusik among friends. With a small cast and no large choir, the ensemble has arranged 30 arias, recitatives, choruses, and chorales from Bach s masterpiece in its own version. The score remains untouched, but electric guitar and Hammond organ sound in the continuo, there’s only one trumpet, and the whole ensemble joins in the chorales. View here.

The Alexandria Symphony Orchestra (ASO) in collaboration with the Alexandria Choral Society (ACS) has released its virtual winter concert featuring ASO musicians and a guest appearance by Alexandria Choral Society singers. The 34-minute video Sure on This Shining Night: A Musical Message of Hope will be available on YouTube until the end of December.
“The question for the Alexandria Symphony has been how music can contribute at this fraught moment to finding a more accepting and empathetic, less partisan, common ground,” says ASO Music Director James Ross. “What can bring us together, even if apart? This project is our answer to that question.”

Holiday concerts are few and far between this year, but a handful of organizations are offering at least some cheery sounds.
The Schenectady Symphony Orchestra initially streamed their virtual “Poinsettia Pops” concert on Tuesday from the Proctors stage, but the concert is still available to listen to through Christmas Day.
