Belgian outfit Royale Union Saint-Gilloise have won the race to land English starlet Matthew Sorinola, TEAMtalk can exclusively reveal.
The 20-year-old rejected a new contract at Milton Keynes Dons,
as we revealed on Thursday. The wing-back had attracted interest from Premier League and Championship clubs. There was also strong interest in the shape of Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic.
Sorinola, though, has opted to move to the continent and to Belgium. And while he has shunned possible deals in Germany and France, he has opted to join the club better known as Union SG.
Union SG, who briefly featured Chelsea youngster Charlie Brown on loan before he signed with MK Dons, won the Belgian second division and will be moving up to the top flight next season. Lewis, who also had drawn interest from Freiburg, Huddersfield, and Derby County, is expected to compete for a starting spot.
Union were taken over in 2018 by Tony Bloom, who also owns Brighton & Hove Albion, so Lewis could have an easy pathway back to English football should he do well.
And we certainly wish him all the best of luck!
In related youth transfer news, last week Chelsea signed a couple youth players who had been on trial with the club, namely Jayden Wareham, 17 and Declan Frith. Wareham had featured in a number of U18 Premier League games, while Frith had even featured in three of our Premier League 2 matches. Wareham has already confirmed the move on Twitter, and arrives on a three-year contract, which is the maximum for a 17-year-old.

This weekend marks the end of the 2020-21 Premier League 2 season. Manchester City won the trophy a few weeks ago, and in quite the comprehensive fashion as well, but the spots below were up for grabs entering the last round of matches.
Chelsea’s season got mired in a COVID-19 outbreak at the academy in January, with a number of games postponed to later dates. When the young Blues did return in February, the rustiness was evident, with the team going winless in five games. We did get back on form towards the end of the season, winning four of the final five matches, and finishing the season in second place, 14 points behind the champions and 4 points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in third.
