Enterprise reporters, photographers win New England journalism awards

The awards were announced virtually Thursday and Friday at the 2021 New England Newspaper Convention. Enterprise photographer Alyssa Stone was honored with two first place awards. She received the top award in the portrait photo category for a picture of Brockton High School wrestling captain Naziah Armor, who was photographed up close during a December 2019 practice, with sweat dripping down his face. Stone also placed first in the spot news photo category for a picture taken during the tense demonstrations in downtown Brockton in the wake of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. She photographed a woman, who was kneeling in the street and whose hands were up in the air, being pepper-sprayed by a Brockton police officer as authorities were attempting to enforce a curfew.

Hanson girl dressed as firefighter watches heroes in action at fire

HANSON  Jocelyn Ebbs dressed in a realistic firefighter s costume, red helmet and all ran to her family s front window at the sound of sirens. The 5-year-old didn t even need to put the costume on. She was already wearing it  and usually is. She and her sister, Willow (Ebbs), love to play firemen, said Margaret Mullen, their grandmother and guardian. They have a couple of firefighter costumes, but that one is totally realistic and they both fight over it. Early Saturday afternoon, the costume belonged to Jocelyn. She was captured wearing it in a photo by Enterprise photographer Marc Vasconcellos, who was at the scene of the house fire.
